About

Welcome to the home of the Long Island Physics Teachers Association. Our mission is to provide professional development and fellowship for the physics teachers on Long Island, NY.

Every year we hold conferences for physics teachers. Topics range from pedagogical techniques relevant to physics classes, to curricular materials, both presentations, and labs, to make-and-take workshops where we build pieces of equipment to take home with us, to physics presentations from active physicists. We develop and run the Physics Olympics, a competition for teams of students from schools across Long Island. And we publish an informative and interesting newsletter, distributed electronically to our members.

We encourage all physics teachers to join and participate in our activities. Members include current physics teachers, retired physics teachers, pre-service teachers, and physicists from universities, Brookhaven National Lab, and other scientific institutions. Your (small) membership fee allows our executive board members to continue to develop and run activities throughout the year.

Thank you for joining us.
